Bhubaneswar: The Cooperation Department, in collaboration with Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited (OKCL), launched the OS-CIT training programme for officials of PACS/LAMPCS across the State to enhance their digital skills, here Friday.
The training programme was virtually inaugurated by Minister of State for Cooperation, Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts, Pradeep Bal Samanta. Samanta highlighted the growing importance of digital technology in the cooperative sector and observed that if PACS and LAMPCS officials become proficient in modern information technology, cooperative services at the grassroots level can be made more accessible and effective.
The programme was attended by Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Cooperation Department; Manish Agrawal, IAS, Registrar of Cooperative Societies; Pradeep Kumar Rout, Special Secretary, Electronics and Information Technology Department and Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC); Manoranjan Puthal, MD, Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited (OKCL); along with several senior officials of the Cooperation Department.
Speaking on the importance of the training programme, Patil stated that the use of digital technology in the cooperative sector can make service delivery simpler and more transparent. He expressed hope that the training would enable officials to use technology effectively. “PACS and LAMPCS are important grassroots institutions in the rural economy and the agriculture-based cooperative system. Since these institutions are directly connected with farmers, making their operations digital and technology-based can bring greater speed and transparency to service delivery,” he added.
A total of 5,422 officials from 2,711 PACS and LAMPCS across all districts of the State joined the programme online. The online participation was facilitated through 540 designated OK CL authorised learning centres across the State
