It’s freezing! Mercury drops to 8.5 degrees in Daringbadi

Daringbadi: Chilling cold tightened its grip with the mercury plummeting Wednesday to 8.5 degree Celsius at this tourist destination in Kandhamal district. It thus became the place to record the lowest temperature this year in Odisha.

Normal life in Kandhamal district has been disrupted as intense cold wave conditions have set in. Like every winter, people in this destination have started enjoying the Kashmir-like weather. This city has long been known as Odisha’s Kashmire because of the cold conditions it experiences every year.

Other places where minimum temperature was recorded below 15 degree Celsius are Sonepur (9.4), Phulbani (10.5), Angul (11), Baripada (12), Keonjhar (12), Jharsuguda (12.2), Bhawanipatna (12.2), Talcher (12.3), Koraput (12.6), Boudh (14), Cuttack (14), and Balangir (14.8).

Capital city Bhubaneswar registered a minimum temperature of 16 degree Celsius.

However, the area has witnessed less number of tourists fall this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The district’s tourist department has anticipated less number of tourists’ arrival in Odish’s Kashmir Daringbadi with return of chill as the state government has declared there is a chance of a second wave of COVID-19 in the district during the winter session.

Snowflakes were noticed at various places in Greenbadi, Linepada, Saringirpi, B. Dakebadi, Kilabadi villages of Daringbadi block. People however, preferred to stay indoors to stay cozy and warm.

While the weather is sunny during the day, a biting chill prevails after sunset. At most places, the locals can be seen sitting around fires during the evening and morning hours.
