It’s raining goals in Cuttack

Cuttack, July 2: Manipur, Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana registered emphatic victories against their respective opponents in one-sided matches of the Junior Girls’ National football championships at different grounds here Saturday.
In the first match, M Ratnabala Devi scored six goals including a double hat-trick to help Manipur thrash Chhattisgarh 12-0 at the Barabati Stadium. Ratnabala struck in the 35th, 50th, 65th, 68th, 73rd and 78th minutes respectively. Y Hemalata Devi (sixth, 93rd), H Daya Devi (56th, 59th) scored a brace each. S Ratna Chand found the back of the net in the 86th minute. Puja Tandi of Chhattisgarh scored an own goal in the 21st minute to compound their misery.
At the Orissa Police Ground, Bihar thrashed Himachal Pradesh 20-0. Neha Kumari (eighth, 21st, 41st, 50th, 62nd, 70th and 71st) scored seven goals including a double hat-trick. Archana Kumari (fifth, 26th, 47th and 85th) and Tara Khutan (25th, 32nd, 67th and 69th) scored four goals each including a hat-trick each. Shyama Rani (40th, 75th) scored twice while Aashu Kumari (14th), Priyanka Dutta (28th) and Soni Kumari (42nd) found the back of the net once.
In another match at the Barabati Stadium, Jharkhand rode on a double hat-trick by Asha Kumari to spank Madhya Pradesh by 11 goals. Asha struck in the 20th, 33th, 57th, 68th, 71st and 86th minutes respectively. Mamata Kumari (28th, 51st, 74th) also achieved a hat-trick. Dolly Kumari (36th) found the back of the net once. Madhya Pradesh tried their best, but could not score a single goal.
In the fourth game of the day at the Orissa Police Ground, Gujarat prevailed over Haryana 10-0. Renu (18th, 42nd, 75th and 87th) and Nisha (34th, 44th, 63rd and 74th) scored four goals each, including a hat-trick while Anjali Sanyal (14th) and Anita Rani (55th) struck once each.
OSJA function
Orissa Sports Journalists’ Association (OSJA) observed World Sports Journalists’ day at the KIIT auditorium, Saturday.
“Along with education and other sectors, sports should also be given equal importance,” stated KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta while inaugurating the meet. Eminent sportspersons from KIIT along with OSJA members took part in the function.
