Jajpur youth awarded for bravery

Bhubaneswar: The Commissioner of Police, Satyajit Mohanty, Friday felicitated a youth whose act of bravery led to the arrest of two dreaded looters at GGP Colony under Mancheswar police station here Wednesday.

The youth, identified as Subrat Ojha of Panasuapala under Balichandarpur police limits in Jajpur, was felicitated at the Commissioner of Police’s office at Vidyut Marg here.

Sources said Subrat along with his mother Manorama Ojha was travelling on an auto-rickshaw on Canal Road near GGP Colony when three bike-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from Manorama and started fleeing the spot.

Hearing his mother’s scream, Subrat chased the desperados and pulled the motorcycle making the robbers to fall down.

While one of them managed to escape, the public joined Subrat in getting hold of the other two. Irate locals thrashed the miscreants before handing them over to police. The entire episode was captured on a CCTV camera.

The arrested duo was identified as Subhranshu Kumar Parida, 23, of Kalapada under Cuttack Sadar police station and Bijaya Maharana alias Makara, 30, of Kantabada under Chandaka police station. The cops seized the motorcycle.

More than 23 cases of loot and robbery are pending against Maharana at different police stations in Bhubaneswar Police district while the cops found Parida’s involvement in seven robbery cases under various police stations of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

The accused were sent to judicial custody.
