Talcher: Talcher Parivesh Suraksha Samiti’s January 4 Talcher bandh has been postponed following a written assurance of its demands being fulfilled. After a meeting convened by the Angul district administration and chaired by Sub Collector Paresh Chandra Nayak, the Samiti was assured that their two major demands would soon be fulfilled.
The Sub Collector discussed with the officials of MCL, the regional transport officer, the regional state pollution control board officer and the members of the Samiti.
Going to inform about Talcher Medical College, the CMS of Nehru Satabdi Central Hospital informed that 90 percent of the hospital’s construction work has so far been completed. Equipment and furniture, orders have already been placed. Regarding functioning of the medical college, a decision will soon be taken at high level meeting, he informed.
In order to bring the pollution level down, the regional transport officer with the help of the police will inspect heavy vehicles engaged in coal transporting to make it sure that they ply at a speed of 20kmph.
MCL officials assured that by April 2019, facility to get the wheels of coal carrying vehicles washed would be made available. Two sweep machines will be put to use February. Both sides of the road will be made concrete and a massive plantation drive will be undertaken, they promised.
The officials urged regional pollution control board officer to take steps to take measures to stop river water from contamination by the ash water of NTPC, JITPL and TTPS.
After getting a written assurance from the Sub Collector, the Samiti declared that its bandh call for January 4 was postponed. However, members like Padma Charan Samal, BauriBandhu Bej, Prahallad Charan Sahoo, Sanatan Dhir, Devraj Maharana and many others threatened that the strike would be intensified in coming days if demands were not met as per the assurance.
