Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to bear additional funds from the state budget for the construction of the proposed Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCH&RC) at Jatani.
The hospital is being established by the Centre’s Department of Atomic Energy along the lines of Tata Memorial Centre, a premier cancer treatment facility in the country.
The project was initially planned with a capacity of 200 beds, which was later increased to 385 beds.
Due to the expansion of the hospital’s bed capacity and other infrastructure requirements, the state government will bear the additional expenditure required.
The Tata Steel Foundation is also providing financial support for the project. Once operational, the HBCH&RC is expected to benefit not only patients from Odisha but also cancer patients from across eastern India.
