Jayanti secures silver

 

Bhubaneswar: Ace para athlete of Orissa, Jayanti Behera claimed a silver medal in the 100m of the T47 women’s category Monday at the IIIrd Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai.

She set a timing of 13.48 seconds while Japan’s Honoka Misu (13.45 sec) and Moe Nakagawa (14.24 sec) clinched the gold and bronze medals respectively.

4 Oriyas in India team

Four girls from Orissa namely Sarita Soreng, Niketa Bishi, Susmita Tanty and Bannya Kabiraj have been named in the 23-member Indian squad that will fly to Bangladesh to participate in the SAFF U-15 Women’s football championship which will start, December 17.

The squad: (Goalkeepers): Monika Devi, Khushi Chanu, Manisha; (Defenders): Mekola Devi, Sarita Soreng, Pushparani Devi, Pavithra Murugesan, Yumlembam Papki Devi, Pratiksha Lakra, Susmita Tanty; (Midfielders): Kritina Devi, Bannaya Kabiraj, Poonam, Kiran, Aveka Singh, Anay Bai, Martina Devi; (Forwards): Priyanka Devi, Shilky Devi, Lynda Kom, Niketa Bishi, Santhiya Vengadajalam, Sunita Munda; Coach: Maymol Rocky

Cricket tourney

The VIIIth Charitable Corporate Cricket League will start December 14th here at the Kishore Club Ground in Unit-I, organisers WE4YOU announced in a press meet, Tuesday.

The three-day tournament will see 32 teams divided into eight groups vying for top honours. The matches will be 12-over a side affair. Each team will be playing three matches in the group stage with the top sides qualifying for the pre-quarterfinals.

The funds raised from this tournament will be used to prepare audio books for visually-challenged people of Orissa.
