JDCA film fest to offer bouquet of creations

Bhubaneswar: Documentaries on the lives of luminaries from the state, films for children and animation films are among the creations set to vie for attention at the 10th National Film Festival on Art and Artists.
Jatin Das Centre of Art (JDCA) is organising the three-day festival slated to begin at IDCOL Auditorium here January 15. JDCA was founded by noted painter Jatin Das, father of actor Nandita Das who is the trustee of the centre.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Jatin said that through the event JDCA aims to bring “a wide array of films on diverse topics” to the public.
Nandita, in turn, said: “The demand for many popular art forms is dwindling. We need to help popularize them through suitable platforms. We are trying our best to do it and the film festival is one step towards it.”
According to the organizers, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to inaugurate the festival, entry to which will be free in a bid to draw more visitors. The line-up at this edition of the event includes artists Paramjit Singh and Amitava Das; and documentary filmmakers Nandan Saxena and Kavita Bahl, among others.
At the event special tributes will be paid to the late Nirad Mohapatra, the maker of parallel cinema, in the form of a film titled ‘With Quietude…To Nirad’. The film has been created by Joshy Joseph. Documentaries on Pattachitra and Odissi are also to feature at the festival.
Besides screening of films, the event will also feature an exhibition of art and craft from the state besides the additional attraction of food stalls. Workshops and discussions by experts on film will also feature at the festival. Also, Nandita Das, Nandan Saxena, Kavita Bahl and Amitava Das will deliver talks on subjects related to film-making.
The organizers expressed hope that the event will draw a good gathering of film lovers and critics. Several documentary film-makers are also slated to take part in event.
