Jeweller robbed of valuables worth Rs 20L

Ranpur: Armed miscreants looted gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 20 lakh and Rs 60,000 from a jewellery shop near Ranpur market in Nayagarh district Sunday night.

Shop owner Babu Sahoo also sustained injuries.

According to reports, Babu Sahoo, son of Daitari Sahoo of Suansia Sahi in Ranpur, who owns Maa Jewellers closed the shop at 9pm after putting all ornaments and cash in his bag.
When he left for home on his motorcycle, four miscreants on two bikes chased him near Jagannath temple at Samuka Sahi. When he didn’t stop the bike, the miscreants hurled two crude bombs in front of his two-wheeler.
Babu who was alarmed stopped his bike following which the miscreants snatched his bag at gunpoint after thrashing him. They later fled the spot.

On being informed, Ranpur police reached the spot and started an investigation. No complaint has been lodged at Ranpur police station till the filing of this report.

In a related incident, unidentified miscreants looted Rs 3 lakh by breaking the window of a car parked in front of Tehsil office in Jharsuguda district, Monday.

A person identified as Suresh Chandra Sagar of Ramachipidihir parked his car in front of Tehsil office after withdrawing Rs 3 lakh from State Bank of India and went for some other work.

However, miscreants managed to smell the huge amount of cash left in the care. The miscreants broke the windshields and made away with the bag containing cash.

When Suresh returned, he found his car’s windowshield broken and the cash missing. On being informed, police reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter. Suresh has also lodged a complaint with the police.
