Jharsuguda: A man allegedly caught and bit a cobra after accidentally stepping on it in Karmapada village under Laikera police limits in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district Monday.
The incident took place Sunday night when Dharam Singh Khadia was on his way to a field and accidentally stepped on the snake lying on the road. After the cobra raised its head, Khadia caught it, allegedly bit it, and then threw it away.
Khadia later became frightened and informed his family, who rushed him to the Govindpur Community Health Centre in neighbouring Sambalpur district.
Doctors provided him with preliminary treatment and said his condition was stable. He was advised to remain at the health centre for 24 hours for observation.
Recounting the incident, Khadia said he had been told by someone in the past that catching and biting a snake would prevent its venom from spreading.
