Kolkata: Inspired by the success of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar’s biopics, world’s leading wicket taker in women’s ODI cricket, Jhulan Goswami’s life will now be portrayed on celluloid.
Tentatively titled, ‘Chakdaha Express’ (Chakdaha incidentally is the town in Nadia district of West Bengal, where Jhulan grew up), the biopic will trace the journey of Jhulan from her hometown to Lord’s where India narrowly lost to England in the ICC Women’s World Cup, this year.
The movie will be made in Hindi and director Susanta Das said they will start writing the script and shooting will begin in April next year.
“Shooting will be held from Chakdaha to Lord’s,” Das who directed 2012 Bengali movie ‘Asche Bochor Abar Hobe’, told this agency here Tuesday.
Without mentioning anyone in particular, the director said that names of few tall actresses of the Hindi film industry have been shortlisted to portray Jhulan’s role. “I cannot tell you the names as they are yet to be signed. But we are in talks with leading actresses,” Das said.
“We have seen MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar’s biopics. But this will be the first biopic on women’s cricket. We will send our crew to wherever Jhulan has played. The focus will be her journey, the odds she overcame since she was 10. Hope it will inspire and motivate millions of youngsters. It’s all about chasing your dream,” he concluded.
In recent times sports biopics have been a popular topic for directors and producers. However, all those have been male-dominated biopics. However, now quite a few women sportspersons have become popular topics. Movies on the lives of Saina Nehwal and Dutee Chand are also being made.
