Jilted lover killed Hasina: Cops

Bhubaneswar: Infocity police, probing the sensational murder of a 21-year-old woman at Kanan Vihar here September 25, arrested the victim’s jilted lover, a 36-year-old man, for murder.

“Pradyumna Parida, a resident of Nua Sahi in Udala in Mayurbhanj, has been booked for killing Hasina Das, who hailed from Odatailo in Jagatsinghpur and was working as a nurse at a pharmacy here,” Twin City police commissioner Yogesh Bahadur Khurania said at a press conference here. Hasina and Parida, who was a supervisor at the pharmacy where the victim was working as a nurse, were in a relationship since some months.

Ever since the incident, the accused had been deliberately trying to gain the bereaved family’s faith in an attempt to deflect suspicion. Police zeroed in on Parida after putting his cellphone under surveillance, Khurania added.

Revealing the murder motive, Khurania said Hasina, who once dreamt of marrying Parida, parted ways with him after she learnt that the 36-year-old man was married and was the father of a girl. However, the jilted Parida continued to make advances towards Hasina and also forced her to maintain sexual relations with him.

On the fateful night, Parida reached Hasina’s place and tried to get close to her. However, the duo had a quarrel. In a fit of rage, Parida chocked her to death with a pillow. Later, he slit her throat with a knife to confirm death, a senior police official said.

The commissionerate police recovered the mutilated body of Hasina from her rented accommodation in Kanan Vihar Phase-II late September 25 night.

It was around 10.30 pm September 25 when the landlord’s mother came downstairs to lock the main gate and found Hasina’s door open. Suspecting foul play, she went inside and found the lifeless Hasina lying on the mattress with her throat slit.

Infocity police reached the spot and sealed the room before deploying security men until the following morning when police personnel and a forensic team arrived.

As blood combined with foam was coming out of her mouth and the throat slit the victim’s father Dasharathi Das alleged that his daughter had been raped and killed and lodged a complaint. Police registered a case (104/17) of murder and launched a probe.
