Rourkela: A man was trampled to death by an elephant in his sleep at Seldega village under Tamda forest range in Sundargarh district late Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Lusa Oram of the village.
According to sources, the jumbo entered into the human settlement last night and destroyed houses and standing crops.Later, the pachyderm entered into Oram’s house and dragged him out of his house while he was asleep.
Later, it battered him to the ground and killed him. Hearing the screams, locals woke up and drove away the animal into the forest and alerted forest officials.
After getting information, forest officials reached the village Wednesday morning and sent the body for autopsy. A case of unnatural death was registered in this connection.
