Rourkela: A wild tusker trampled a woman to death in Dengula village under Koida police limits in Sundargarh district, in the early hours of Thursday. Reports said that Seeta Munda, 36, wife of Parama Munda, was attacked by a tusker, while she was fast asleep along with her family members. Seeta, a resident of Dungula village was inside her house when the elephant attacked. The family members somehow managed to escape. However, luck was not with Seeta as the jumbo caught her before she could do anything. It lifted her in a fit of rage with its trunk and banged her to the ground and then trampled her to death.
Subsequently, the tusker finished the country-made brew of tribals, handia, and left the house. Soon, enraged villagers gathered there and informed the police and the forest officials. They staged a road blockade along Tensa-Koida road demanding compensation for the bereaved family. The enraged villagers let the body be taken for post-mortem only after they were placated by Forest officials. They alleged that the Forest Department was not doing enough to protect their lives.
