Kaiangola bridge approach road stone packing comes crumbling amid heavy rains in Bhadrak

Aradi: Stone packing from a nearly 100 feet long stretch of Kaiangola bridge approach road on Baitarani River at Bodak area along national highway (NH-20) under Chandbali block in Bhadrak district collapsed Thursday night following incessant rains in the region.

According to locals, landslides had taken place here several times in the past posing a threat to the approach road. This had led NH authorities to go for stone packing here.

The stone packing work entrusted to a contractor is underway. Hundreds of vehicles from Aradi, Jajpur, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar pass though this route every day.

“The possibility of snap of road connectivity cannot be ruled out in future. Repeated landslides could also deter vehicular movement in the days ahead,” a local man said.

Stone packing work should be carried out properly, villagers demanded.
