Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday alleged that the KALIA Commission, constituted to look into the issues of irregularities and other issues relating to the farmer-friendly scheme, is likely to be a failure like the other commissions of the BJD government.
Speaking to reporters, the BJP Krushak Sangh President Surath Biswal claimed that the proposed KALIA scheme is slowly losing its sheen and relevance. The leader also targeted the incumbent government for not maintaining transparency and using the scheme to allegedly “woo the farmers”.
“We have come to know, from government advertisements, about BJD’s plan to form a commission to look into the issues in the KALIA scheme. I don’t think this step is taken to ensure welfare of farmers but it seems to be an eye-wash to divert attention of voters from the scheme’s failure,” Biswal said.
He also cited the examples of other commissions to prove that “such commissions fail to serve their purpose”.
Biswal also cited several anomalies in the implementation of the scheme in the state and said, “The state neither had funds for the farmers nor do they have proper transparent lists of farmers who ought to be the beneficiaries of the scheme. Why did we see relatives of BJD workers in the list? The whole scheme was a tactic to lure voters to vote for BJD.”
