KALIA mess: 17,882 fake beneficiaries in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: The administration has started weeding out ineligible beneficiaries of KALIA in Bhadrak. Till date, 17, 882 people in this scheme were found ineligible with Basudevpur block having the highest number of fake beneficiaries.

Reports said, 1, 65, 542 beneficiaries, both eligible and ineligible, have been provided instalments of assistance twice. Before disbursing the third instalment of the fund, the administration has started identifing fake beneficiaries through block and district level committees.

Basudevpur has 28, 714 KALIA beneficiaries. Of them, only 5,841 were detected as ineligible. A total of20, 340 people were enrolled as KALIA beneficiaries in Bhadrak block. Of them, 892 were found to be ineligible.

The number of ineligible beneficiaries in Bhandaripokhari block is 2920; 2187 ineligible in Bant block; 1751 in Chandbali block; 2655 in Dhamnagar block and 1636 in Tihidi block.

According to reports, 174, 650 beneficiaries are waiting for the third instalment of KALIA fund.

A district level officer on the condition of anonymity said that about 80 percent of the farmers enrolled under KALIA in the district are ineligible. After the verification is over, a clear picture about the ineligible beneficiaries will come out, he added.

Meanwhile, Congress has slammed the BJD government over the mess in KALIA scheme. Nalini Mohanty, executive president of Congress (Bhadrak unit), alleged that detection of ineligible beneficiaries proves that the BJD had launched the scheme to grab votes in the election.
