Kalinga Stadium to host inaugural tie

Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: Kalinga Stadium in the city will host the inaugural match of the IVth edition of the Hockey India League (HIL) here, January 18. In the game, hosts Kalinga Lancers will meet Uttar Pradesh Wizards (UPW) in their first home fixture.
Hockey India (HI) announced Saturday the schedule of the month-long mega event featuring six franchises which is scheduled to take place from January 18 to February 21. The semifinals and finals will be played in Ranchi, February 20 and 21 respectively.
Lancers will meet Dabang Mumbai (DM) January 21, Delhi Wave Riders (DWR) February 5, Punjab Warriors (PW) February 7 and Ranchi Rays (RR) February 8 respectively in their home matches.
In their away games, Lancers will face UPW at Lucknow, January 25; RR at Ranchi, January 28, DM at Mumbai, January 31; JPW at Chandigarh, February 15 and DWR at Delhi, February 17 respectively.
KIIT qualify
Hosts KIIT University qualified for the All India Inter-Zonal University Sports Meet in the woman’s tennis event after beating Bilaspur University 2-0 here Saturday.
In basketball also, the Orissa varsities performed splendidly as KIIT and Utkal University won both of their matches. Utkal triumphed over VBS University 67-46 and got the better of SOA University 67-23. KIIT spanked Manipur University 96-35 and prevailed over Bilaspur University 72-41.
