Cuttack, Sept 25: Eminent Oriya umpire Kalyan Roychoudhury was conferred with the first Harmohan Praharaj Memorial Award by the Orissa Umpires’ Association at the OCA conference hall here Friday.
Kalyan received a shawl, a citation and a trophy from OCA secretary Asirbad Behera who graced the function as chief guest. In a glorious career Kalyan conducted eight first class and 1,500 OCA matches. He worked with the OCA as an umpire from 1988-2012. He has also been present as an official in a few BCCI U-19 games.
“I am very happy to receive the award. This will help youngsters take interest in umpiring,” stated Kalyan after receiving the award.
“I am glad to know that the Orissa Umpires’ Association is giving an award in memory of late Harmohan Praharaj. I hope they will continue it every year. OCA will be happy to offer all kinds of help,” stated Asirbad.
Among others, BCCI curator Bibhu Prasad Satpathy and OCA panel umpires Chandi Prasad Nanda and Tareni Prasad Das were also present.
