Soro: An inmate at a Kanyasharm at Purubai in Soro municipality area of Balasore died Wednesday, while another is reportedly sick. The death has raised questions about the safety of girls at Kanyashram.
According to a report, Hemajani Hansda, an 8-year-old, had complained of stomach pain Tuesday. She was admitted to Soro CHC, where she succumbed to her ailment Wednesday.
Another student identified as Saraswati Mallik is critical.
According to some inmates, family members of an inmate had brought some berries to the Kanyashram. Some ate the berries, which reportedly caused stomach pain.
Following her death, a crowd gathered at the hospital and tension prevailed there. Police have seized the body and registered a case.
