Bhubaneswar: Kendrapara Contenders (KC) emerged champions of the first edition of the Orissa Tennis Premier League (OTPL) beating Sambalpur Shooters (SS) 3-1 in the summit clash played at the tennis complex in the Kalinga Stadium here, Thursday.
Contenders started brightly as Sidhant Sekhar Mohanty registered an emphatic victory over Biswajit Das of Shooters 6-0, 6-3 in men’s singles. KC doubled the lead when Rutuparna Choudhury beat rival and close friend Ameek Kiran Batth of SS 7-6(7-5), 6-3.
Shooters bounced back by winning the mixed doubles as Lalatendu Barma and Satirtha Patnaik defeated Chandra Sekhar Mohanty and Rahul Kumar Mohanty 6-1, 6-3. However KC wrapped up the title with Rutuparna and Chandra Sekhar winning against the Shooters’ duo of Ameek and Satirtha 6-1, 6-3. The winners were presented with a cheque of Rs 1,00,000 while the runners-up got Rs 50,000.
Scholarship announced
PNV foundation has announced scholarships for the best men’s and women’s players of Orissa team, participating in the upcoming VIIth National Senior Football Tennis Championships to be played at the Dhenkanal Stadium, November 26-29. The foundation has also agreed to provide jerseys and financial assistance to all the players.
