Kendrapara bandh hits normal life

Kendrapara: A 12-hour bandh called by Rashtriya Suraksha Samiti has thrown normal life out of gear Thursday in this district.

The bandh was called following a violent clash between two groups at the High School Ground over taking out a rally to mark the birth anniversaries of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai, Wednesday.

In view of the bandh, the district administration declared the closure of all educational institutions to avoid any untoward incidents.

Similarly, shops and business establishments downed their shutters. Vehicular movement on various roads too came to a grinding halt. Agitators were seen burning tyres on the roads and at strategic squares.

At 3 pm Wednesday, when the rally was marching ahead from Santasahi to the High School ground, another group opposed the procession leading to a violent clash.

The district administration has imposed Section 144 in the area.
