Puri: A joint team of the Puri Municipal Corporation, police and Food and Supplies Department conducted raids at several khaja shops and manufacturing units near the Jagannath Temple, Wednesday.
The raids were carried out in areas around the Srimandir, Uttar Parswa Math and Srisetu following concerns over adulteration and unhygienic conditions in khaja preparation.
Officials seized khaja and sugar syrup found to be adulterated or prepared in unhygienic conditions and handed them over to the municipal corporation for further action.
Around three quintals of khaja and sugar syrup have been seized so far. Raids were conducted at around four khaja-making units, while Rs 35,000 was collected in fines.
