Bhubaneswar: The ancient rock-cut caves of Khandagiri and Udayagiri in Bhubaneswar will now be presented to visitors through a modern light and sound experience, blending history, storytelling and technology to showcase Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.
The Khandagiri-Udayagiri Light & Sound Show, developed by the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, was inaugurated Sunday night by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who also holds the Tourism portfolio.
The initiative aims to enhance the interpretation and visitor experience at the historic heritage site by presenting its caves, sculptures and inscriptions through an engaging audiovisual narrative. Using light, sound, storytelling and modern technology, the show brings alive the historical and cultural legacy associated with the ancient rock-cut caves and offers visitors an immersive perspective of their significance.
The show will be presented twice every evening in both Odia and English, with each presentation lasting approximately 16 minutes and seven seconds. The two daily show slots are from 1900 hours to 1935 hours and 1945 hours to 2020 hours. Visitors can book tickets online through the Odisha Tourism ticketing portal, www.bookodisha.com.
The Light & Sound Show marks an important addition to the state’s heritage tourism infrastructure and will help provide visitors with a more engaging way to understand and experience the historical significance of Khandagiri and Udayagiri, Parida said.
