Amarpali: The administration has swung into action and sent a medical team to Amarpali village under Biramaharajpur block in Subaranapur district after leading daily Orissa POST reported three deaths in the last one and half months due to a kidney ailment.
A medical team from the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and local Community Health Centre (CHC) collected blood samples wherein at least 19 were diagnosed with having the deadly disease in the village.
Led by Dr Sibanand Chaulia, the team comprising Sabar Babu, health workers Giridhari Sahu and Taramani Naik confronted the ailing people and discussed the problems they are facing. The team has also prepared individual medical reports and they will be submitted to the Health Department for necessary action.
It may be noted that Anant Sahu, Chaturbhuja Biswal and Sriram Baghar passed away last month due to the ailment. Among the affected persons are Madhab Padhan, Dadhi Kamil, Behera Sahu, Suresh Sahu, Upendra Seth, Brahmanand Pati, Braja Deep, Babu Bagarti, Ram Naik, Laxmibati Sahu, Suranani Sahu, Hrusikesh Pradhan, Lalita Sindiria, Doulath Sindiria, Sukru Bhoi, Jagannath Sahu, Sankari Bhoi, Bui Bhoi and Biswamitra Samal.
During the probe, it is learnt that most of the affected persons belong to below poverty line (BPL) category and have not taken any prescription due to financial constraints.
“Many of us have not undergone any kind of treatment or have taken medicines due to financial problems,” a patient said. Condition of many of these people is worse. So, the locals pleaded with the administration to take immediate steps before it is too late.
Due to lack of proper drinking water facilities, the residents depend on tube wells with fluoride content. Moreover, water from ponds and canals also worsen the health of the locals.
