Kids from slums to enjoy share of play

Bhubaneswar, July 3: Tata Trusts has partnered with Pro Sport Development (PSD) to support, for the next one year, the implementation of its Community Sports Programme. PSD is an organization that uses sport as means to develop youths, especially from underprivileged and marginalised sections. The programme is expected to benefit 600 children from slums in Bhubaneswar. According to officials associated with the programme, it is designed to help holistic development of underprivileged children, and would ensure their regular and sustainable participation in sport for their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Besides holding weekly training sessions for such children through six centres, Tata Trusts will also ensure that the curricula
for participants is developed and refined. “The initiative will ensure sustained and increased participation of a greater number of children in sports and physical activities,” a Tata official said. “Children included in the programme are to be provided with sporting kits, and the training centres will be equipped with sporting equipment; regular sporting events and competitions will be organized for these children. Moreover, playgrounds at these centres will be transformed into multi-sport arenas, with infrastructure for football, netball and volleyball,” he added. The official averred that the programme will offer such children a platform for exposure to sporting competitions and events and will boost their selfesteem and confidence, besides honing their interpersonal and communication skills.
