Kids just love superheroes

Be it Indian superheroes such as Krish, Shaktiman, Baal Veer, Ganesha or Chhota Bheem, or those from Hollywood such as Spiderman, Superman, Iron Man, or Captain America, their amazing and daring feats always fascinate kids. Orissa POST asked a few kids who their favourite superhero character is and the reason they love him.

Rita, a Class V student from Bhubaneswar, first came to know about superheroes after watching a Spiderman film. She said, “After watching Spiderman, I was so impressed that I wanted to acquire power like him. Earlier, I had tried to fly, with two artificial feathers, but met with an accident. Since my parents know about my crazy thoughts, they always keep an eye on me so that I do not harm myself if I experiment. I love the way Spiderman shoots webs from his wrists and swings from skyscraper to skyscraper to reach a person in distress in minutes.”

“My all-time favourite is Shaktiman,” says Divya Mohanty from Sambalpur. A student of Class VIII, he started watching Shaktiman online after he heard his parents discussing an episode of the TV show, Shaktiman. He said, “I was in Class VI. Once I was doing my homework when I heard my parents discuss an episode of the Shaktiman serial. They talked about Gangadhar, the funny avatar of Shaktiman, and Geeta, the lady love of Shaktiman. It was the first time that I had heard about a superman and I wanted to check what he looked like. Later I saw an episode on my father’s mobile and enjoyed it a lot. Since then, I have been a big fan of Shaktiman.”

Like in Hollywood, a few films in Bollywood have also had superhero characters. One of them was the Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Ra-One.’ Superhero G-One, the character played by Shah Rukh in the film, was a hit with children. “My favourite superhero is G-One,” says Rakesh from Cuttack. “The best thing about G-One is that he can understand the feelings of human beings unlike many other supermen. He loves kids and fights with all evil forces including Ra-One to protect his young friend. I believe if I were in distress, G-One would come to help me out. I wish someday I get a chance to meet G-One. I also love Krish. He has a family and he balances his life as a superhero and as a normal family man quite well. He is special in that way. Also, he loves kids. I think I too want to become a superhero someday.”

“There are many superheroes who help people, but my favourite is Chhota Bheem,” says Kritika Das, a student of Class III of Delhi Public School, Mohali. “Chhota Bheem is a popular superhero with many students in my school.  I often talk with my friends about the twin brothers, Dholu and Bholu, who along with Kalia, always plot to embarrass and defeat Bheem, but never succeed. Bheem and his friends are usually involved in protecting Raja Indravarma, the king of Dholakpur, and his kingdom from various evil forces. He defeats his enemies and saves his friends like Chutki, Raju and others. I like Superman and Shaktiman, but now Chhota Bheem is my favourite superhero.”
