Kiran, Smaraki share joint 2nd spot

Bhubaneswar, Dec 11: WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty and Smaraki Mohanty of Orissa are sharing the joint second spot along with five others with 2.5 points each after the completion of the third round of the All India Open Fide Rating Women’s Chess Tournament here Friday.
WGM Mary Ann Gomes of West Bengal and WGM Bhakti Kulkarni are jointly leading the pack with three points each having won all their three matches.
Kiran Manisha won her second round match quiet convincingly against statemate WFM Rutumbara Bidhar. But she was forced to share points with WFM Tarini Goyal of Chandigarh in the third round.
Smaraki got the better of Arpita Krishna from the state in the second round. However she had to sign peace with Pati Mitali Madhukar of Maharashtra in the third round.
Other round-III results: Aparajita Gochhikar (Orissa) bt N Sathwika (AP), Sampanna Hota (Orissa) drew with Ankita Goue Palle (AP), Rutumbara Bidhar bt P Priya Lassya (AP), Anisha Mishra bt Priyanka Routray (Orissa), R Srimathi (TN) bt Miracle Panda (Orissa), Shreya Smruti Mohanty (Orissa) bt Yashita Rout (Orissa).
Chess meet
IS Chess Centre and Cuttack District Chess Association will jointly organise the All India Open Fide Rating Chess Championship at Cuttack, December 21-25. This kind of mega tournament will be organised in the city for the very first time. Approximately 300 participants across the country will take part in the tournament which carries a prize purse of `1,00,000.
Tennis tourney
Aditya Satpathy and Abhisek Mohapatra will meet Kabir Hans and Vighnesh Nanda in the U-16 and U-12 boys’ singles final of the Nalco Open tennis tournament after winning their respective semifinal matches at the Kalinga Stadium here Friday. The finals will be played Sunday.
In the U-16 boys’ category, Aditya got the better of Jastin Tanmei 7-3 while Kabir Hans triumphed over Pratuysh Mohanty 7-5. In the U-12 boys’ category, Abhisek battered Sahil Kumar 6-0, while Vighnesh edged out Aryan Swain 6-5.
