Bhubaneswar, March 11: Kishor Club confirmed their place in the final of the Tata Utkalika Cup football tournament after scraping past Tata Football Academy (TFA), Jamshedpur 5-3 in a nail-biting semifinal at the Unit-VI HS Ground here Friday. Kishor Club will clash with Cuttack Sports Hostel (CSH), in the final Sunday.
Both the sides failed to find the back of the net in the stipulated time period which led the game to the penalty shoot-out. The local side emerged victorious after converting all of their five chances. TFA could find the back of the net thrice. Custodian of the winning side Dikhyan Bage was adjudged the man of the match for his brilliant work behind the net.
GCS, BCJ win
Gandhi Club, Sundargarh (GCS) and Birsingh Club, Jharsuguda (BCJ) scripted fighting wins over their respective opponents in different matches of the Inter- District Club Championship (Kalinga Cup qualifying round) at Sundargarh, Friday.
The Sundargarh side pipped Maa Mangala Club, Jajpur by a solitary goal at the Sundargarh Ground. Francis Lakra scored the all important goal of the match in the 70th minute.
In another encounter, BCJ registered a hard fought win against Popular Club, Dhenkanal (PCD) at Kundukela Jublee Field. Penalty shoot-out was implemented after both the sides failed to score in the regulation time. Jharsuguda brigades sealed the game 4-3.
SFC in semis
Shekhawati FC, Delhi (SFC) entered the semifinals of the All India D S Cup football tournament scripting a comfortable 3-1 victory over District Sporting, Boudh at the Court Ground in Boudh, Friday.
The Delhi brigades, who had scored one goal till the half-time, added two more goals to their tally in the second half of the game. Meanwhile, the Boudh side managed to score a consolation goal and were knocked out of the tournament. SFC, Delhi will face Rabani Club, Nagpur in the semifinal Saturday.
3 from Orissa
Three players from Orissa have been selected Friday in the training camp for the Junior Asian Rowing Championships in Kerala, starting March 15. They are Jharana Hasti, Sumitra Mallick and Kamala Lakra. Orissa rowing coach Jose Jacob has been appointed as the chief coach of the camp.
