Bhubaneswar: Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Thursday became the final team to qualify for the quarterfinals of the MCL Cup Inter-School football tournament. KISS spanked Govt High School, IRC Village 5-0 in their last league match here at the Unit-VI Boys’ High School Ground here.
All the goals were scored in the first period, with the first four goals coming in opening 15 minutes. However, they failed to continue with the momentum, they set before the break, in the second half what could have been a much devastating day for the IRC Village team.
Sushant Tudu scored a brace while Dolaram Dharua, Sunil Murmu and Kunaram Soren struck other three goals for the KISS side.
KISS started the proceedings in style when Dolaram put them ahead as early as in the eighth minute with a wonderful strike. Sushant doubled the lead a minute later.
The fate of Govt HS was however decided when Sushant struck the third goal for KISS, his second of the match, when he tapped in a beautiful pass inside the box by a KISS midfielder in the 14th minute.
Sunil Murmu made it more difficult for the IRC Village side when he made the score 4-0 in favour of KISS a minute later. Kunaram Soren completed the rout with a 25th-minute strike from the edge of the box.
With a goal to his name, Kunaram was adjudged the player of the match, who also played crucial parts in setting up couple of goals.
The last-eight matches will be played August 28-29. However, the venue will host the Jayanta Mohapatra Memorial women’s one-day football tournament August 27 (Sunday), one of the reserve days before the MCL Cup quarterfinals.
