Bhubaneswar: Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) and Sainik School sailed into the semifinals of the MCL Cup Inter-School football tournament winning their respective quarterfinal matches at the Unit-VI Boys’ High School Ground here, Monday.
Former champions KISS thrashed BJEM School 3-0 while Sainik School edged past Capital High School 2-0 in another hard-fought encounter. KISS will now face Sainik School, August 30 for a place in the final.
Sushant Tudu put KISS ahead in the 19th minute. Dolamani Dharua doubled the lead three minutes later. Sushant rounded off the tally with a wonderful strike, his second of the match, just before the break.
In another last eight game, two first half goals by Binay Hial and Mrutyujeet Das proved enough for Sainik School to beat Capital High School. Binay opened the scoring as early as in the 10th minute. Mrutyujeet doubled the lead in the 22nd minute.
The second session, however, turned out to be a drab affair as both teams engaged in scrappy midfield football.
