Bhubaneswar: Outbidding Croatia by a huge margin, India, represented by Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), won the bid to host the 19thInternational Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) World Congress-2023.
The congress which is held in every five years will be held from January 15-19, 2023 and is expected to be attended by more than 10,000 delegates from over 150 countries.
Briefing the media here Sunday, Founder of KIIT and KISS Achyuta Samanta, said, “Both KIIT and KISS are doing exceedingly well winning praises from all across the globe.” Lauding the “constant efforts of KIIT and KISS” in organising several mega events Samanta said, “The state has also grown in stature because of these events being organised.”
It may be worth mentioning here that the IUAES is the largest gathering of academicians and researchers in the fields of anthropology and ethnology in the world and is held in every five years.
In 2014, KISS applied to host the event but lost the bid to Brazil.
However in 2018, during the congress held in Brazil from July 16 to 20, Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, VC, Utkal University along with Deepak Kumar Behera, VC, Sambalpur University and KISS team represented the plan before the General Assembly to host this mega event in Odisha. While KISS, for India, got 2084 votes, Croatia received 89 votes.
India who hosted the IUAES World Congress in 1978 will be hosting this meet after a gap of 45 years.
