Knife duel: Loco pilot dies, colleague critical

Murder

Talacher: A knife duel that ensued between two loco pilots following an argument at a rented house in Ganesh Vihar in Anugola district late Sunday night left one of them dead and another fighting for life, police said Monday.

The deceased loco pilot identified as Hemant Maharana and his seriously injured colleague Kanhucharan Jena reportedly shared the rented accommodation.

According to police, the violence followed an argument between the two over an unknown issue.

The exact circumstances leading to the knife fight remain unclear.

Kunjakumar Behera, another colleague of Maharana, arrived at the house Monday and knocked on the door repeatedly.

When there was no response, he alerted the landlord, who then informed police.

Police broke open the door and found Maharana dead and Jena lying injured in a pool of blood.

Jena was initially taken to a local hospital and later shifted to Kataka for further treatment.

A police team from Colliery police station, accompanied by the SDPO and a scientific team, inspected the scene and began an investigation.

Police said the exact cause of the altercation would be known after Jena recovers and his statement is recorded.
