Koraput: The body of Damodar Tripathy, 59, a jamadar at Koraput Circle Jail, was recovered from his quarters Saturday.
Tripathy had reportedly been suffering from multiple ailments for a long time. On receiving information, Koraput Town police reached the spot and recovered his body from the locked quarters. It was later sent to Koraput Medical College for post-mortem.
Police registered an unnatural death case (55/2026) at Koraput Town police station and launched an investigation into the incident.
Tripathy was due to retire from service in 2027. He was unmarried and hailed from Kelanagar in Jayapur, Koraput Circle Jail Superintendent Kumar Marandi said. Koraput Town police station inspector Satyananda Patra said a post-mortem would be conducted Sunday.
