Bhubaneswar: In a major twist to the sensational Unmay Padhi death case over a viral obscene video, the forensic report received by police Wednesday hinted that it may be a case of suicide, not murder.
However, the post-mortem report of Padhi of BJB Nagar in the city, had revealed that a number of people were involved in the “murder”. The report had further stated that the miscreants had hit him on the head and then stabbed him in the stomach. They later set him on fire, as per first reports.
The police had detained a girl, also featuring in the sex video with Padhi, had been detained under suspect for her involvement in the murder. Police suspected that she might have killed Padhi with her accomplices for leaking the video featuring herself and Padhi after their break-up.
However, the girl denied any links and had knocked on the doors of the Crime Branch seeking an impartial probe. She had also requested the cyber cell of the Crime Branch to destroy the video clip featuring her along with Unmay that had gone viral last year and punish those who had circulated those clips.
Earlier, the police had picked up the girl, along with her male friend and Unmay’s brother for questioning in connection with the case March 24.
Based on a complaint by Unmay’s family members that he was murdered over the video clip, police started inquiry after the post mortem report of the deceased, whose half-charred body was recovered from Kuakhai riverbed March 21, had hinted at involvement of multiple people in the murder.
However, the forensic report has now put the police in confusion. The twist however did not go well with the deceased’s family members who demanded a thorough probe into the incident and action against the culprits. While the girl and her male friend were suspected to have killed Unmay for leaking the sex video featuring the girl and himself, nothing has been ascertained as of yet, police said.
