Kunduli ‘gangrape’ case: Probe panel hearing held

Koraput: The Commission of Inquiry on the alleged Kunduli gangrape and suicide case held its seventh phase hearing and recording of statements in the Semiliguda camp court Sunday.

The victim’s mother, brother and maternal uncle have been served notices to depose before the commission.

The minor tribal girl from Musaguda village of Koraput district had brought rape charges against four security personnel posted in the region October 10, 2017. Initially, the case was investigated by the police but following a huge public outcry, it was handed over to the Crime Branch.

The girl had committed suicide by hanging herself at her house January 22.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik February 7 ordered a court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case and sought report within three months. The Commission of Inquiry visited Musaguda village and interacted with the family members of the victim April 29. Later, the tenure of the commission was extended two times -March 26 and June 22.
