Bhubaneswar: A lady attempted to commit suicide by self immolation in front of Naveen Niwas here, Wednesday. The lady, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police alleged that the BJD candidate for the Udala Assembly segment seat had raped her in 2014.
The girl also said that she had filed a police complaint immediately after her modesty had been outraged by Soren and his friend Swarup Das in January 2014. She had then accused Soren and his friend of raping her at the MLA’s residence, January 3. She said she had paid Rs 1,00,000 to Soren and Das who had promised to provide her with a job. When they failed to get her a job, she had gone to the MLA’s house asking them to return the money. It was then that the two had gangraped her, she had alleged in her complaint.
Soren had then termed the entire incident ‘a conspiracy against him’ even though he admitted that he knew the woman.
The lady while trying self immolation said that she was doing so to protest against the re-nomination Soren from the Udala assembly constituency.
However, prompt police intervention in front of the Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik’s residence prevented the situation from getting out of control. The police doused the flames, recused the woman and send her to Capital Hospital for treatment. However, she had suffered serious burns.
