Lady teacher busy marketing, husband left to look after students

Tikiri: A teacher reportedly went out of the school during duty hours to buy vegetables after asking her husband to look after the children at a school in Shankarada panchayat under Kashipur block in Rayagada district.

When this correspondent was riding past Bahar Kujhami Primary School 12.30pm Saturday, he saw a person dozing on the chair of the teacher while some students playing outside and some inside their classes.

Out of curiosity the correspondent entered the school. When he asked the man about the teachers in the school, he said only one female teacher had come and she had gone to the market nearby to buy vegetables.

Asked about his identity, the man’s said he was the husband of the teacher who had gone shopping. While going out, she had reportedly told him to look after the students.

The parents expressed concern over the absence of the teacher during duty time at the school. The villagers also alleged that the only male teacher appointed attended work irregularly.

Block Education Officer Jagdish Chandra Singh said he had would look into the matter and he would take action after an inquiry.
