Khajuripada: A 55-year-old man was killed and his son critically injured in an attack over a long-standing land dispute in Sakersharu village under Kandhamal district Friday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Ratnakar Majhi, while his son, Shiba Majhi, sustained serious injuries. Police said Ratnakar and his brother Rabindra Majhi had been involved in a long-running dispute over land. According to police, Rabindra allegedly entered Ratnakar’s house while he was sleeping and attacked him on the head and neck with an axe.
Hearing his father’s cries, Shiba rushed to his aid but was also allegedly attacked by Rabindra. Ratnakar died at the spot, while Shiba was rescued by residents and admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Phulbani. His condition was reported to be critical.
Police reached the hospital, seized Ratnakar’s body and began an investigation. Sadar police station Inspec tor-in-Charge Pradeep Jena said Rabindra had been detained in connection with case No. 189/26 and was being questioned. Further investigation is under way.
