Nayagarh: Movement of vehicles on Khurda-Bolangir Natinal Highway came to a halt following a landslide at Banabiri ghat in Daspalla area of Nayagarh district Monday night.
Scores of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road following the landslide.
The mishap occurred Monday night when a portion of the ghat crumbled down to the road due to incessant rains.
Reportedly, a private firm had undertaken the work of road expansion from Daspalla to Banigochha two months ago. The height of the road at Banabiri ghat was descended after excavating soil from both sides of the hill. However, the guard wall had not been constructed properly, leading to the mishap.
Till last reports came in, no injuries have been reported yet and restoration is currently underway to facilitate plying of vehicles on the road. Meanwhile, locals demanded the construction of a secure side wall to put such mishaps under control.
