Sambalpur: Tension ran high at Sambalpur as scores of agitating lawyers of the district gheraoed the Sambalpur District and Sessions Judge Thursday morning to press the demand for establishment of a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court (HC) in the western part of the state.
According to reports, the irate lawyers, who are on a strike for the past two months, waylaid Justice Malaya Ranjan Dash near Court Chhak while he was on his way to the court.
The lawyers also asked the judge about the decision of the Chief Justice of the High Court regarding establishment of the permanent HC bench. The protesters apprised the judge about the inconvenience being faced by the people due to the cease-work strike.
The lawyers requested the judge to apprise the state government about the same.
The District and Sessions Judge was unable to attend the court for the day.
