Nandapur: A 14-year-old boy was killed after lightning struck while he was listening to music on earbuds and charging his mobile phone at Darengba village in Koraput district Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Rati Sisa, son of Jagannath Sisa of Darengba village under Kasandi panchayat.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms have been lashing parts of Nandapur block since Wednesday. According to family members, Rati was listening to music through earphones while his mobile phone was plugged in for charging when lightning struck the area.
The power supply went off, and family members heard him cry out. They rushed inside and found him unconscious. The boy was taken to Nandapur Community Health Centre in a 108 ambulance, where doctors pronounced him dead after examination.
His father lodged a complaint at Nandapur police station. Police registered an unnatural death case and launched an investigation. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem Thursday morning.
