Lightning claims 2 lives, injures 1

Bhograi/Anandapur: Lightning claimed two lives while injured one in separate incidents in the state Tuesday.

A farmer died and a woman was injured after lightning struck them at Ausa under Bhograi police limits in Balasore district. The deceased was identified as Jogendra Behera (40). Critically injured Gitarani Jena (18) was rushed to the district headquarters hospital. Jogendra and Gitarani were in a farmland looking after the agricultural activities when lightning struck during rain. The two fell unconscious and were rushed to the Jaleswar community health centre where Jegendra was declared brought dead. Police registered a case of unnatural death.

In another incident, a 29-year-old man died when lightning struck him at Kodapada under Anandapur police station in Keonjhar district. The deceased was identified as Gobardhan Palai, son of Ekadashi Palai.  Due to heavy rainfall Gobardhan had taken shelter under a tree when lightning struck him. Anandapur fire brigade rushed to the spot and sent him to Anandapur sub-divisional hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
