Lightning claims 4 lives in state

Bhubaneswar: At least four persons were killed while three sustained serious burns after being struck by lightning in separate incidents Sunday.

In the first incident, an elderly woman was killed while her two grandchildren were critically injured in a lightning strike at Bhupad under Khunta police limits of Mayurbhanj district. The deceased was identified as Chitra Hembram (55). The injured were Raghu (4) and Deula (5).

They were struck by lightning while returning home after taking a bath in a pond. The injured children were rescued and admitted to Dukura community health centre (CHC).

Likewise, another elderly woman was killed after being struck by lightning at Tentheipali under Kudagaon panchayat in Athmallik block of Angul district. The deceased was identified as Tula Pradhan (52), wife of Gokul Pradhan.

The incident occurred while Tula was working at a farm beside a river near the village.

Similarly, two persons including a CRPF jawan were killed and one was critically hurt after being hit by lightning at Mathanpalla under Titlagarh block of Bolangir district.
