Chhendipada: Lightning claimed the life of a minor at Kushakila village under Jarpada police limits of this block in Angul district, Friday. The deceased has been identified as a 13-year old Jeeta, daughter of Sisir Barik, a resident of Kushakila village.
According to family sources, Jeeta had gone to the village mango orchard to attend nature’s call in the morning. It was then lightning struck her, leaving her senseless.
Seeing her ordeal, some cowherd boys rushed to her rescue while others alerted the villagers. Jeeta was then rushed to Chhendipada community health centre (CHC). However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.
“The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem. Lightning is said to have caused her death,” said Jarpada IIC Bindubasini Biswal.
