Bhubaneswar: The tourism department has started the process of installing ornamental lights around Bindu Sagar Lake near Lingaraj temple here as part of measures to attract tourists.
The department is focusing on beautification of Bindu Sagar as development of such sites holds significance in the wake of the capital city being given the Smart City tag.
The lighting project is being undertaken at a cost of Rs 93 lakh, tourism department sources said.
There are also plans to make Ekamra Van, a medicinal garden situated towards the east of Bindu Sagar, Uttareswar Ghat, Mohini Ghat, Bishram Ghat and other places near the pond attractive by ensuring the functioning of decorative lights.
This will also help check the activities of anti-social elements who take advantage of the insufficient light and assemble there to plan crimes.
The installation of lights around the historic lake has thus become imperative from the security and beauty points of view, sources said. PNN
