Line man electrocuted in Puri

Puri:  An electrician was electrocuted while at work near Sadar police station square under town police limits here Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as CESU lineman Pabitra Jena(30) from Dandamukundapur village of Pipili block in this district.

According to locals, Pabitra had climbed atop an electric pole at about 11:00pm to carry out a repair, as a part of the effort to restore power supply in the pilgrim city. The incident occurred when someone charged the line unaware of his presence on the pole. The shock flung Pabitra to the ground.

He was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital where the doctors declared him ‘dead on arrival’.

Tension ran high at the hospital over his demise. However, police forces later reached the hospital and brought the situation under control.

The irked fellow linemen and family members demanded compensation and an investigation to find the person who charged the line and the person who directed him to do so. They also demanded an investigation to find out at whose behest, the repair work was being carried out at late night.

Notably, two days ago another lineman had died after falling from an electric pole while carrying out a repair work at VIP Road here.
