Cuttack: Cuttack municipal corporation (CMC) has moved the Supreme Court seeking to make the civic body a party to a case pertaining to a project at Andarpur under integrated housing and slum development programme (IHSDP).
The apex court had earlier ordered a stay on the housing project undertaken by the CMC while adjudicating a batch of petitions.
Although the project work has been almost over, the beneficiaries are yet to get houses under the scheme due to the court’s intervention which has triggered resentment among the people.
According to sources, `27 crore was sanctioned for the housing project of which `22 crore has already been spent for construction of four four-storey buildings. The remaining amount will be spent for construction of boundary wall, market complex, park, community centre and concrete roads. The housing project is expected to benefit 192 families while each building will accommodate 48 families.
Each beneficiary will get a bed room, a kitchen, a toilet, a bathroom and a veranda. The civic body has distributed the houses to 136 of 192 beneficiaries. Each beneficiary has to deposit `20,000 to avail the house.
The CMC had directed the beneficiaries to deposit the money between July 25 and 30. While some had deposited the money within the period, others sought more time to deposit the money.
“The case is sub-judice with the apex court. We will take action after the court pronounces its verdict,” said CMC commissioner Bikash Chandra Mohapatra.
Speaking on the issue, project committee president Niman Karan said, “The CMC had promised to provide us the houses by August 31. Now, the civic officials say the case is pending with the SC. We have waited for a long time. We will take possession of the houses if the CMC fails to hand over the houses by August 31.”
