India win first T20I
Auckland: Shreyas Iyer’s 29-ball 58 fired India to a six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first T20I here at Eden Park to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Work cut out for India
Auckland: India have their work cut out, chasing New Zealand’s 203/5 in the first T20I here at Eden Park.
At the end of 15 overs, Team India’s score reads 151/4. Shreyas Iyer 16 (12b) and Manish Pandey 3 (5b) remain on the crease trying to chase down the total. Ish Sodhi (3-0-22-2) was the pick of the bowlers for the Black Caps.
Rahul, Kohli rain boundaries
Auckland: Opener Kl Rahul 56 (27b 4×4 3×6) was at his devastating best before getting caught by Tim Southee off an Ish Sodhi ball as India posted figures of 115/2 at the end of ten overs here at Eden Park. Skipper Virat Kohli, however, looks to capitalise on his 42 (28b) and chase down New Zealand’s total of 203/5.
Rahul was replaced by Shreyas Iyer in the middle.
Strong start for India
Auckland: Chasing down New Zealand’s mammoth total of 203/5, India made a strong start to their innings by scoring 57/1 in the first five overs at Eden Park.
Earlier, Mitchell Santner took the wicket of Rohit Sharma who was caught by Ross Taylor at backward point.
New Zealand post 203/5 in 20 overs
Auckland: Colin Munro, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor smashed scintillating half-centuries to power New Zealand to a challenging 203 for five against India in the first T20 International at Eden Park here Friday.
Opener Munro blasted six fours and two sixes in his 42-ball 59, while skipper Williamson treated the Indian bowlers with equal disdain, hitting them out of the park four times in his 26-ball 51.Taylor then clobbered an unbeaten 54 off 27 balls. His innings was laced with three sixes and as many fours.
Opener Martin Guptill also chipped in with a 19-ball 30.
Earlier, India skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to field.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah (1/), Shardul Thakur (1/44), Yuzvendra Chahal (1/32), Shivam Dube (1/24) and Ravindra Jadeja (1/18) snapped one wicket each.

India pick up 2 quick wickets
Auckland: India restricted New Zealand between the 10th and 15th overs picking up the wickets of Colin Munro (59, 42b, 6×4, 2×6) and Colin de Grandhome (0). The hosts were 143 for the loss three of wickets after the completion of the 15th over.
Munro holed out to Yuzvendra Chahal in the deep trying to hit Shardul Thakur out of the park. Grandhome fell to the first ball he faced, trying to sweep Ravindra Jadeja he was snapped up at short fine leg by Shivam Dube.
Breakthrough for India
Auckland: New Zealand openers continued their onslaught against India in the second T20I but Team India skipper Virat Kohli brought in Shivam Dube to break the 81 run partnership between Martin Guptil and Colin Munro. Kohli’s decision paid its dividends as Dube took Guptil’s wicket thanks to a superb catch from Rohit Sharma. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson replaced Guptil in the middle.

Electrifying start for Kiwis
Auckland: New Zealand openers Colin Munro (33r, 19b) and Martin Guptil (15,11b) went all guns blazing against India in the first T20I at Eden Park by posting figures for 52/0 at the end of the first five overs. Indian seamer Shardul Thakur (2-0-30-0) proved to be the most expensive with Jasprit Bumrah (2-0-15-0) in toe.
India win toss, choose to field
Auckland: India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to field in the first T20 International against New Zealand here Friday.
India come into the series after a 2-1 triumph over Australia in a home ODI assignment last week.
