Baripada: Local people Monday morning staged a road blockade near Raruan disrupting vehicular movement on the busy road connecting Jasipur and Khiching in Mayurbhanj district. They demanded immediate arrest of a rape accused.
“A man had raped a girl June 23. Almost a week has passed but the police are yet to nab the accused. We will intensify our strike by extending it to other parts of the district, if the police’s attitude remains the same, one of the agitators said.
Local people had June 29 gheraoed Raruan police station demanding action against the person involved in the crime, but no action has so far been taken, said another agitator.
A police team reached the spot and pacified the protesters and assured them that appropriate action would be taken in the case.
